At least three area high school teams have canceled their opening games of the season on Friday.

Fenwick, Kings and New Miami will not play previously scheduled games, according to officials and media reports.

Kings tweeted this afternoon it was canceling its game against Winton Woods because of a positive coronavirus test for an athlete.

Fenwick also won’t play its game against Edgewood because of a positive coronavirus test for a student, said Fenwick Athletic Director Michael Coleman. During contact tracing, it was determined quarantines caused by that positive test would impact some athletes, he said.

No other Fenwick athletic programs are affected, he said.

New Miami coach Andy Stuckert said earlier this week that his team’s Week 1 matchup with North College Hill also would not be played.

The Journal-News is working to learn more about these changes, their causes and how they impact the rest of the season.

Friday is the first day of a shortened high school football season that will have six games in the regular season instead of the usual 10 because of coronavirus precautions. Playoffs will be held after that truncated regular season.
